Esquipulas Birdwatching Tour

Esquipulas is a small countryside town located at the foothills of San Marcos de Tarrazú (one of the highest mountains in Costa Rica). It is widely considered to be the absolute best bird watching spot near the Manuel Antonio and Quepos area! Located just approximately 45 minutes from Manuel Antonio, Esquipulas is situated at about 400 to 700 meters above sea level, which happens to be a great altitude for a bird watching morning. Our tour starts with an early pickup at your hotel in the Manuel Antonio area, then we'll drive up the mountains of Tarrazú. On our way there, our naturalist guide will make sure to point out any bird species we come across, and talk to you about some of the area's points of interest. The habitat at Esquipulas is a combination of several ecosystems such as primary and secondary forests, house gardens and cattle pastures. This makes the Esquipulas area host to a very high diversity of birds, including Tanagers, Trogons, Hummingbirds, Flycatchers, Manakins, Toucans, among many others. A very high number of bird species has been reported in Esquipulas: approximately 304 bird species! This trip will give you an incredible opportunity to observe an astounding variety of birds!
