As much as we all love a good adventure, it's nice to be able to do something in this world without having to pay for the privilege.

Here are some of our favorite spots and activities around town where you can enjoy Costa Rica without additional expense.
Beaches
One of the more obvious ones, however, besides Playa Espadilla, the main beach in Manuel Antonio, there are many smaller beaches that offer a variety of waves, scenery and privacy levels.
There is a myriad of wildlife living in the jungle which will sometimes venture onto the beaches. The more you are aware of your surroundings, the more you will see. Be aware of the possibility of snakes, spiders and other creepy crawlies. Remember, sometimes crocodiles have been spotted at these beaches.
Take your time and enjoy, but please leave no trace.
Do not leave valuables unattended and please do not feed the wildlife.

Local Hiking
Reto Mae is a local hike you can do by yourself. This scenic trail follows the coastline south from Quepos. You will need good footwear, water and a sense of adventure. Reasonable fitness is needed with the rough trail, and climbs/descents. Use a trail app if you are less confident, however the pink ribbons and shoelaces are frequent to guide you along your way. There is a myriad of wildlife living in the jungle the more you are aware of your surroundings, the more you will see, please do not feed the wildlife. Be aware of the possibility of snakes, spiders and other creepy crawlies. Remember, sometimes crocodiles have been spotted at these beaches.

El Salto Waterfall is another local hike you can do by yourself. The trail is best described as for the adventurous. You will need good footwear, water and swimwear, towel if you intend to go in. Reasonable fitness is needed with the rough trail, and climbs/descents. Basketball court is another local activity that doesn't need your wallet. The recently refurbished basketball court is open for all to enjoy.
There is also a childrens playground right next to it at one end and some exercise equipment at the other.

Casa de la Cultura
The cultural center regularly hosts art exhibitions, movie nights, markets and events. It is also home to a small library
Sunset Spots
Great spot to spend the afternoon and sunset with a flat grassy area, some tables, seats and public gym equipment and only a short walk from Quepos.
Frequented by locals and tourists, it is generally considered a safe spot to watch the sunset then stroll back into town during twilight.
Swimming is an option during daylight hours (tip:go down the right hand side of the boat ramp to enter the water).

An elevated position next to Pacifico Colonial Condominiums. Easy to access (right next to the road), views down the hillside to the ocean make for a spectacular view of the sunset.

Along the foreshore directly in front of Quepos, there is plenty of seating to take in the evening sunset. This is a popular spot for an evening stroll and sometimes also used for events organised with the municipality.
